The Foxglove Saves the Day

Welcome Friends and Family!

Below is a video of our reader's theater called Foxglove Saves the Day. Once we each did a lot of research on our rainforest topics, our group got together and discussed what information we each wanted to add into the script. Next, we used a story map to figure out a good rainforest tale that would include each member's research. After a lot of hard work and a little laughter we came up with this adventurous story. Once you watch the video please feel free to comment on something you learned or enjoyed about the show.

Sit back, relax, and get ready to learn!

We hoped you learned a lot about the foxglove plant, chameleon, red eyed tree frog and the sloth.

Be sure to catch us next time on Turn To Two.

Sincerely,

Emilia, Ethan, Laney and Anthony

Natasha and Trey

Hello Friends and Family,

Trey and Natasha are here to share about our topics. We are both learning about animals that live in the rainforest. Trey is researching the orangutan and Natasha is studying the tapir.

Natasha thinks it is a cool fact that the tapirs look like watermelons with legs.
Click
HERE to learn more about tapirs.

Trey found out that orangutans hold a leaf over their head when it rains.

Click HERE to learn more about orangutans.

Our animals are both endangered. This means that they are becoming extinct.
Here are some ways you can help...

  1. Don't cut down trees from the rainforest. If you do, please plant new ones.
  2. Don't hunt endangered species for fur, food or money.
  3. Give money to people who are helping the rainforest.

Do you have any other ideas on how we can help the rainforest? Let us know!
We hope you are liking our blog and learning more about the rainforest.
See you next time!
Natasha and Trey

Charlotte and Grace

Dear Families and Friends,

Welcome back to our blog! Since we last posted we have an update. Each second grader has taken time to think about their topic and what they know.

Here are some things that Charlotte already knew about jaguars:
  • Jaguars eat sloths
  • Jaguars are good climbers
  • Jaguars rest on tree branches

Grace wrote a book about deforestation. Here are a few things she knew:

After doing this we discovered we had a lot to learn! Here are a few wonders we are hoping to answer:

  • Charlotte wonders if jaguars have tried to eat people
  • Charlotte wonders if the mother and father care for their cubs together?
  • Grace wonders what birds do when their homes are chopped down?
  • Grace wonders how the people of the rainforest deal with deforestation?
Wish us luck during our research! Stay tuned to Turn To Two for more information from other bloggers.

Sincerely,
Charlotte and Grace

Julia and Izzy

Dear Families and Friends,

We are thrilled to be the first friends to blog to you about the rainforest. Each second grader chose to research a topic from the rainforest. Julia is researching medicinal plants and Izzy is researching the howler monkey. It is a long and exciting process. We started by creating folders to put all of our research in. One of the things you will find in our folders is a Wonder Wheel.

A Wonder Wheel is a wheel of things that we wonder (or want to know) about. These wonders are our guiding questions. We use them when we are researching. Every step of the way we have all learned something new.

A howler monkey has a body that is two feet long and a tail that is two feet long, too.

Medicine from the medicinal plants in the rainforest are used all over the world to cure people from diseases like cancer.

We hope you enjoy learning this information about the rainforest.
Stay tuned to Turn To Two for more fun facts about the rainforest...

Sincerely,
Izzy and Julia

Welcome to Turn To Two!

April 23, 2010

Dear Families,

Second grade has been learning about the rainforest. Exciting discoveries are being made daily; we thought we'd let our families in on the research process by sharing our thoughts and information through a blog. During our study, each student will get a chance to blog to families a snippet from their rainforest research. Be sure to tune in next week to Turn To Two for an exciting update about the rainforest!

We hope you enjoy this peek into the rainforest world!

Chief Bloggers,
Ms. Conlon and Mrs. Ralton
